• Marilena

Marilena is a white dun mare that carries red (AA Ee NCr DD). When she was born in 2021, I was sure she would never be made available. To my delight, she was posted for sale as a yearling in 2022 and I was able to convince Hubby that she would be a great addition to our broodmare herd.

    Marilena’s pedigree is here.

Marilena absolutely loves people. All people. She is one of the first to greet visitors to the pasture. Here she snuggles Hubby.

    She’s a beautifully structured mare.

    Marilena’s movement is beautiful too.

Wood’s Sven is Marilena’s sire, is a blue-evaluated stallion that was imported from Canada, and has the rare dark shade, which he has passed to some of his offspring. In time, we will see if he imparted that to Marilena, under her white dun coat, as the colors of her offspring are revealed.

I had been wanting a direct offspring of Sven’s for years. From what I’m seeing so far, Marilena inherited even better structure than what her sire has.

Fjosnisse’s dam is Tea, who is high red-evaluated. Photo credit to her owner, Trish Ravits.

Tea’s sire is BDF Obelisk, a blue-evaluated stallion that I met while attending an NFHR annual meeting in Colorado. He reminded me of an enlarged and high-energy version of my stallion Ragnvald, but I really liked his presence, movement, and dark color. Obelisk was produced from Gjest x Stine, which is often referred to as the magic cross for producing outstanding performance offspring from the Beaver Dam Farm herd of Carol and Arthur Rivoire, which operated for over 35 years in Canada. This photo is from the publicly available NFHR pedigree database.
