Elko on the right here, in the bachelor herd of stallions, geldings, bucks, rams and a LGD.
Elko is a stallion that we purchased late in his life, but he had the height and bone that I wanted to add to our herd. He was a drafty 15 hands tall with 9.75″ cannon bone circumference, which was the heaviest bone in any NFHR standing stallion at the time. I bought him sight unseen, based on photos and his sales post, and wow am I glad I did! His offspring have inherited that extra robust build, and have also been exceptional in temperament. Here is a video example.
Hunter, the white dun stallion on the left in this 2017 photo, is 14.1 1/2 hands tall with 9.25″ cannon bones, and Elko on the right makes him look small.
Elko left, Hunter right. When most people meet Hunter, they’re impressed by his heavy bone and thick build, which highlights how much bigger Elko was.
