• Ashwood Alma

Alma is one of the old style drafty foundation type Fjords that I’ve sought for our breeding program. We have many generations of her progeny in our herd.

This colt was one of the few I actually have had the opportunity to see born. We foal our mares out in the pasture, in the herd, and they tend to have them at night. This is 1dr Audun and he’s a breeding stallion that available for outside stud service in southern Wisconsin.

Ashwood Alma retired from our broodmare herd to become a therapy horse.

Baraboo River Equine-Assisted Therapies, Inc. was Alma’s breeding retirement home, where she was loved and her wonderful temperament benefited the special needs riders and visitors, while also being a breed ambassador.

She lost her left eye to lymphoma, and eventually the cancer took her life. She spent her last months back on our farm and is buried here. Her contributions to the Fjord breed have been great and continue through her offspring.

Alma’s grandson, Syver (Sejline x Hunter), is also a therapy gelding, serving special needs folks at Three Little Burdes Pony Company. We have a lot of Alma’s relatives in our herd and are so grateful for the calm drafty genes she has passed along. They can be found in our herd in Sejline, Lucy, Drifa, Raisa, Viska, Vindkast, Nora, Greta, Sunnev, and Orven.
